TUXFORD POST 16 STUDENTS ACHIEVE HIGHEST EVER RESULTS
First class education resulting in the highest ever examination results are top of Tuxford Post 16 Centre’s agenda.
- 22% grades A*-A at A level
- 55% grades A-B at A level
- Links with local employers have helped students gain higher apprenticeships: In the last couple of years students have gained apprenticeships at Jaguar, Streets Accountants and Edmond Shipway Construction Consultants
- In 2017, 25 students gained places at Russell Group Universities
- 100% of students in year 12 undertook work experience in 2016/2017
- 99% pass rate at A level
Therefore it’s no wonder that the academy is producing such sought after students. Anastasia O’Connell, year 13, is one of many examples of such students. She has applied to top universities Oxford, Durham and Warwick this year to study English, after achieving 11 A*'s and 1 A's last summer in her GCSEs, it is clear that she has thrived at the academy.
There hasn’t been any point whilst at Tuxford where I have felt unsupported from an academic, emotional or social viewpoint. It has been an extremely positive experience overall and I feel really privileged to have studied here.
Annie has definitely embraced all the opportunities the academy could offer her. During her time at the academy she has led the Christian union group, took leads in school productions and was a college president:
We accomplished a lot as college presidents and It was a great opportunity to work with different year group.
Last year Tuxford’s post 16 students were also approached by David Stevenson, Director of Edmond Shipway Construction Consultants, who came into the academy with a fantastic opportunity for our students.
Edmond Shipway offered two places on their trainee programme, and also provided full sponsorship for studying an honours degree at Nottingham Trent University in Quantity Surveying and Construction Commercial Management (by day release).
Two Tuxford students secured the enviable positions of trainee Chartered Surveyors, with the promise of gaining a top class qualification with no debt at the end of it!
I love what I do and I cannot wait to see what the future holds. I am taking every opportunity there is to do as much as possible as I know it will benefit me hugely in the long run. Thank you Tuxford.

Finally, Jonathan Lile is an example of student who has benefited from an internship at Tuxford. Jonathan is gaining valuable experience whilst at the academy as a voluntary intern and is working with staff as student mentor in IT. As a result, Jonathan is feeling increasingly positive about forthcoming interviews (he is applying to Oxford Aviation Academy and hopes to be a pilot).
The intern experience gave me a real confidence boost.
The opportunities available to Tuxford post 16 are clearly impressive and feedback from students, potential employers and universities has shown that Tuxford students are highly employable and achieve places at great universities.
Post 16 students at Tuxford also benefit from their own refectory and dedicated study space – something the young adults certainly appreciate.
It’s great to have our own space to work and socialise. There is also the gym and loads of clubs at both lunch time and after school - if you have the energy!
Leanne Murphy, Associate Principal (Post 16) is extremely proud of the students and the centre which, last year, produced its highest ever student grades.
Post 16 at Tuxford provides students with the whole package. ‘Grit and Goodwill’ is our motto and is something we instil in all our students. Further education is undoubtedly hard work, but the fantastic grades our students achieve mean it is worth it and this is largely down to the high quality teaching and students’ determination. We also have a great team of staff who are fully engaged with student progress and always available to support and offer guidance.
