In October 2017, the RHS presented the academy with a level 4 School Garden Campaign award, and we are now working towards the top level 5 award.

Our head gardener Mr Hardy has been running the Tuxford Academy gardening club for several years now from his outdoor classroom, and teaches our students how to plant and grow produce, care for plants, spot wildlife and even how to safely build garden structures using tools.

From our orchard, to our herb plot and vegetable patches, the produce grown in our gardens is used throughout the academy, including in our kitchens. The students in our gardening club are taught about seasonality and actively encouraged to use their new found skills at home.

Tuxford Academy also won the First Steps to Sustainability category for fledgling green projects in the Notts Wildlife Trust's Green Guardians awards in 2013.

The trust chose to recognise our achievement in creating a pupil-managed herb garden which supplies the academy's kitchens and food technology classrooms.
