Admission Procedures for Year 7

Admissions into Tuxford School for Year 7 are decided by the LEA. The school itself has no influence over who is admitted into Year 7 but it can exercise discretion over secondary transfers into older year groups - providing that there are vacancies.

The LEA applies very strict criteria in allowing only 210 pupils into Year 7. It imposes this restriction in the interests of using the educational resources of Bassetlaw district (buildings and staff) fully. Unfortunately, this means that some parents wishing to send their children to Tuxford are disappointed.

Places in secondary schools are allocated using the criteria reproduced in the second part of this page. Parents apply for places in Tuxford via the county council's North Base. Enquiries and applications are made by writing to:

Admission Criteria

The following criteria will be applied in numbered priority order in the event of over-subscription:

1.    Children in public care.

2.    Children who live in the catchment area and who, at the time of admission, will have a brother or sister attending the school

3.    Other children who live in the catchment area.

4.    Children who live outside the catchment area but who are attending a linked primary phase school on 21st October preceding admission to secondary school and who will have a brother or sister at the preferred secondary school at the time of admission.

5.    Children who live outside the catchment area and who, at the time of admission, will have a brother or sister at the preferred secondary school.

6.    Children who live outside the catchment area but who are attending a linked primary phase school on 21st October preceding admission to secondary school.

7.    Other children who live outside the catchment area.
