Tuxford School becomes East Midlands hubSSAT logo

for Leadership and Innovation

Executive headteacher Chris Pickering announced this week that Tuxford School has been selected by Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) as a regional hub school for Leadership and Innovation. SSAT leadership provision is characterised by the 'by schools, for schools' delivery model and courses are designed and delivered by leading headteachers and practitioners. Mr Pickering - already a 'national leader of education' - is very pleased that the school's achievements are being recognised at national level.

"The staff have a 'can do' ethos coupled with a drive and determination to succeed, he said, "and there exists a willingness to work collaboratively, both within the school and beyond."  Tuxford was judged to be outstanding by Ofsted in May 2009 and has a reputation, within the Local Authority, for its high quality partnership work and has received acknowledgements for its many successes.

From September, the school will be arranging regionally based professional development for teachers at all stages of their careers. The main SSAT contact will be Dave Vernon, a Tuxford Assistant Headteacher who is to be employed by the SSAT for two days a week to develop the Leadership and Innovation Academy in the East Midlands.

"The programmes and events we will offer will be designed and delivered by leading headteachers and practitioners in the region," he said. "We will work with local schools who show outstanding practice and teachers who want to learn from the latest educational developments. This model of working has been successfully trialled in the South West, Yorkshire and the Humber and Eastern regions."

The advantage of localised support for development partners is reduced time out of school and reduced travel costs, making CPD accessible to more schools and more teachers.

The East Midlands hub launch is on Tuesday 13th July from 1.30 pm onwards. Schools in the area have been invited to look at some of the strategies used at Tuxford to support leaders and improve the learning environment for our pupils.  School representatives will also be able to discuss the Leadership and Innovation Academy and find out how they can access support for their school's professional development over the coming years.

Any schools wishing to send a representative to the launch event should book a place via the executive headteacher's PA: polly.pearson@tuxford-comp.notts.sch.uk
